Odell Beckham Jr stars in New York Giants win over Miami Dolphins

New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham (13) makes a catch as Miami Dolphins cornerback Brent Grimes (21) defends, during the first half of an NFL football game, Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, in Miami Gardens, Fla.

"We knew we had to [get the run game going]", Manning told the NFL Network. It motivates me and it pisses me off. It's not too much for me to handle.

Although they are technically third behind the 6-7 Redskins and 6-7 Eagles coming out of Week 14 after matching that record with Monday night's 31-24 victory in Miami, the Giants now control the division race. The running game was the bread and butter for the Dolphins, with Lamar Miller running for 89 yards and two TD's.

So, the Giants can close out a game after all. We hadn't practiced it in a while, but we talked about it earlier today that it might come up. Their most recent loss came on Thursday Night Football against Arizona.

The Dolphins (5-8) were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs with the loss.

Now their season is essentially over. I think, if you look at what we've been able to do...historically, I don't know how far you want to go back, but we've made plays on the ball in the secondary and we're not getting those right now. Just a minute into the game, the Miami offense seemed to be humming, and Ryan Tannehill completed a pass to Dion Sims.

The teams were tied 17-17 at the half. Manning rolled out of the pocket and found Beckham in the front corner of the end zone, falling out of bounds. I said it last night, the ones where guys are scratching and clawing to make plays and something happens, hey, man, that's part of the game.

Aware of the gravity of the situation, the Giants rose to the occasion and outscored the Dolphins 14-7 in the second half, in a game that was much closer than the box score will show. Check. A maddening unwillingness to commit to one running back among Rashad Jennings, Williams, Shane Vereen and Orleans Darkwa? His current six-game 100-yard streak, in which he has totaled eight touchdowns, is pretty good evidence of that.

Eli Manning went 27-for-31 racking up 337 yards and four touchdowns in the win. On offense, the Giants ran an up-tempo offense that was particularly effective late in the game in wearing out the Dolphins' defensive front.

"We wish him the best", Jenkins said. "That was a major goal, and we did that". They've taken all the shots from the outside and they've continued to work hard, believing they can win and tonight that's what it took.

The two players embraced and exchanged jerseys after the game, postponing a friendly competition that fuels them both. This was the Dolphins' first Monday night home game since 2011....

NOTES: Coughlin said he has some concern about kicker Josh Brown, whose third-quarter miss from 49 yards marked his second in two games after hitting 19 straight from the start of the season.

WR Rishard Matthews (ribs) missed his second straight game. Giants LB Devon Kennard (foot) and S Brandon Meriweather (knee) sat out. Mark Herzlich started in place of Kennard, and Craig Dahl replaced Meriweather... Danny Aiken made his debut as the Giants' long snapper, replacing Zak DeOssie (wrist), who is out for the season.... The 6-3 260 pound tight end out of Middletown, CT has been filling the huge void for Giants starting tight end Larry Donnell who is on injured reserve with a neck injury.
