Atlanta, South Florida, And Los Angeles To Host 2019, 2020, And 2021 Super Bowls

Atlanta, South Florida, And Los Angeles To Host 2019, 2020, And 2021 Super Bowls

The Los Angeles Rams and residents of the city have cause to celebrate because Los Angeles has been awarded the 2021 Super Bowl. The news came after a one-day meeting between NFL owners, who voted for the teams that will host the 2019, 2020, and 2021 Super Bowls. If The Rams 2016 NFL Draft class turns out as well as the team hopes, they could have favorable NFL odds to become the first team to win the Super Bowl in their home stadium.

Joining the city of Los Angeles are Atlanta, which will host the Super Bowl in 2019, and South Florida, which will host the event in 2020.

According to earlier reports, the city of Los Angeles was hoping to host the Super Bowl in 2020, but they needed a waiver from the NFL that would make them exempt from the rule that requires a stadium to have been open for two years before it can host a Super Bowl. The city apparently didn’t get the waiver.

Despite not getting the waiver, the Rams will be happy with the opportunity to host the Super Bowl in 2021, which was what the team had hoped for from the beginning.

The last time the Super Bowl was in Los Angeles was 1993, which means it will be 28 years by the time they host it in 2021. The fact that a major city like Los Angeles hasn’t hosted the Super Bowl in over two decades is very surprising, but the NFL made up for the long wait by giving them the 2021 game.

According to reports, Los Angeles was competing with Tampa Bay to host the 2021 event likely won it because the Rams will have a brand new stadium while the Buccaneers have no plans to build a new stadium or renovate their current stadium. The fact that Tampa Bay hosted the event more recently than Los Angeles likely helped Los Angeles’ cause.

Atlanta was considered the front runner for the 2019 Super Bowl because the Falcons will have a new stadium in 2017, and the league loves to award Super Bowls to teams with new stadiums. The fact that the new stadium will have a closed roof to keep the weather elements out during winter was also a plus for Atlanta.

Falcons’ owner Arthur Blank said that he was honored to accept the award for his partners and for the city of Atlanta. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had previously said that the Falcons new stadium screamed Super Bowl.

After the announcement was made, Jones said that he was happy that Atlanta gets to host the 2019 Super Bowl because the city has always been supportive of the Falcons and the NFL.

Jones also congratulated Los Angeles and South Florida for their bids.

The cities that presented bids had to give 15 minute presentations to the owners, then the team owners were given five minutes to make their case as to why their team/city deserved to host the Super bowl.

Atlanta hasn’t hosted the Super Bowl since 2000, when the St. Louis Rams defeated the Tennessee Titans. South Florida last hosted the Super Bowl in 2010, when the New Orleans Saints defeated the Indianapolis Colts.
