Broncos going with Siemian

Siemian, a player I said would be lucky to make the Broncos roster, is named the starter after an offseason wherein he showed his ability to protect the ball better than Sanchez, who entered the offseason as the favorite to be named the starter.

The Denver Broncos on Monday named Trevor Siemian - he of only one career National Football League regular season snap, a kneel-down - as their starting quarterback for their season opener September 8 against the Carolina Panthers.

Siemian has completed 27 of his 43 attempts for 285 yards in the preseason for a 62.8 percent completion rate and a 70.4 passer rating. Drafted in the 7th round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Orlando, Fla. native spent an entire season as the Broncos' third-string quarterback behind Manning and Brock Osweiler. "I can't give any excuse for that poor quarterback gameplay". "I wasn't getting a ton of reps".

"I don't care what kind of QB is there as long as they throw a catchable pass so I can get my rocks off", Sanders told The Denver Post reporter Nick Groke. He's kind of the sleeper, I would say. "I think he's going to make the most of it". I have two of them that have no experience.

Siemian was not even a full time starter in college at Northwestern.

One day after Mark Sanchez lost the Denver Broncos' starting quarterback job to Trevor Siemian, it appears Sanchez's time in Denver is over. The breaking point for Sanchez's chances, however, came on August 20th in a preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers.

"I'm impressed - I think he's very calm, " Kubiak said of Siemian after the game. While those aren't spectacular numbers it could have been worse which it's no surprise that Sanchez was the front runner for the Broncos job with his only competition being Siemian and Lynch. Denver still has a great defense and Siemian should be able to function well if he can limit his turnovers.

We don't have comment from Sanchez, but we do know that he really, really wanted to be the Broncos' starting quarterback.

Sanchez, 29, seemed like the unquestioned front-runner to replace Peyton Manning in Denver after the Broncos acquired him from the Philadelphia Eagles. The widespread assumption was that the Broncos would acquire a proven quarterback in their quest to repeat as champions.

"The thing about replacing Peyton - nobody is going to replace Peyton", Siemian said last week.
