Melania Trump Inaugural Gown

Melania Trump continued her foray into fashion diplomacy Thursday night when she wore a Reem Acra gown to a dinner at Washington's Union Station. So the question is not merely whom she'll be choosing - if she doesn't simply buy off the rack - but also, in a sense, who'll be choosing her.

Earlier in the week, the rumor mill was churning on overdrive, as Women's Wear Daily predicted, correctly it turns out, that Trump would wear Lauren for Friday's ceremony. "I was asked to dress her quite a few years ago and I declined", he said.

Supporting her husband as he was sworn in as president, Melania Trump looked a vision in a baby blue custom Ralph Lauren dress and coat.

Prior to the inauguration, she was seen wearing a military-inspired coat by the NY designer Norisol Ferrari, who said that she wanted to give Melania her own voice.

The 77-year-old king of American heritage built his entire fashion empire by defining quintessential American style - although the bulk of his clothing is made outside the United States.

The choice of an outfit worn by the First Lady often has a huge impact on a designer's fortunes.

The new first lady is under no obligation to be inspired at all by those who came before, Rubenstein said.

President Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton appear at the MTV Ball at the Washington Convention Center, Jan. 20, 1993.

President-elect Donald Trump and his wife Melania arrive for a church service at St. John's Episcopal Church.

The jumpsuit, which retails at upscale Fifth Avenue department store Bergdorf Goodman for about $4,000, grabbed attention because of its fashion-forward silhouette, a one-shoulder neckline and a half sleeve at the left side.

Everybody noticed the similarity between her outfit and the one Jackie Onassis Kennedy wore in 1961 on the day of her husband's inauguration day.

Unlike her sister and stepmother, Tiffany's dress was not designed specifically for the big event.

Even though this day was about the trump family, we can't forget Michelle Obama, who wore an elegant red dress by Jason Wu.

Once most of the media had been cleared out of the room, sources said that Trump began discussing how several musicians claimed to have turned down offers to perform at his inauguration but were never invited to perform in the first place.

Melania Trump seems content to limit her participation in politics to the occasional interview and designing gowns.
