New West police investigate alleged child abduction

A 9-year-old girl was taken by her mother Monday, going against a custody agreement.

Police said she suffers from selective mutism.

Police said the mom is believed to be driving a grey 2003 Toyota Corolla with B.C. licence plate 228MJT. She is 4-feet-5 and 60 pounds.

New Westminster Police are on the lookout for nine-year-old Makayla Estrada-Weber following a possible abduction attempt by her mother on Sunday night.

It is believed that the Estrada entered the United States with the child via the Pacific Highway Border Crossing and was last seen in Blaine, Washington.

The girl is Filipina, with dark brown eyes and hair. At the time she disappeared she wore her hair long with bangs, and was wearing a black jacket and dark trousers. She was last seen wearing a white jacket and blue jeans, black rain boots and was carrying a purse. She has the ability to speak, but she is extremely shy and will not likely ask for help from strangers if she requires it.

If you see Estrata, Makayla or their vehicle, you are asked to call 911.

Investigators are unclear on Estrada's intentions for the girl, but police fear for the child's safety.
