Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain promoted as global VP

Manu Kumar Jain, who has leading Xiaomi's India operations as Managing Director has been promoted to the designation of Vice President at the Chinese smartphone company.

Jain, who joined Xiaomi in 2014, after leaving fashion ecommerce Jabong he co-founded and managed, has been the head of Xiaomi India since the company's arrival in the country same year.

Hugo Barra, who used to be the global VP of Xiaomi before, left to head Facebook's Oculus Team's VR division. "We will continue to invest hundreds of millions of dollars on manufacturing, warehouses, logistics, call centres and service centres in India", Jain told ET last week. While Barra's twitter page continues to feature his position at Xiaomi as Global VP, nearly a month after he announced his new role at Facebook as "VP of Virtual Reality" leading the Occulus team, Manu announced his promotion to simply "vice president" at Xiaomi. He served a solid three and a half years at Xiaomi.

Manu Kumar took to Facebook to thank Xiaomi for this opportunity, "Thank You my phenomenal Xiaomi family!" His exit from he company is definitely a blow as Xiaomi considers India as its biggest market outside China. With Jain stepping in, it is a signal that India will continue to play a prime role in the company's plans of global expansion.

Under his leadership, India had become Xiaomi's largest global market with $1 billion in annual revenues.
