GameStop Wil Have Limited Nintendo Switch Consoles For Walk-In Customers

We learned this recently from a leaked Switch UI video, but now Nintendo has told us officially.

Expecting to play a bunch of your older Virtual Console titles on the Nintendo Switch at launch on March 3rd?

With Nintendo having previously remained hush-hush about the status of the Virtual Console on the Nintendo Switch, many fans had begun assuming it would not be available at launch. It's "designed to install quickly and doesn't disrupt gameplay". The company did not immediately respond to a request by Fortune for comment. While Switch eShop purchases will be tied to your Nintendo account, you can only log into that account on one console at a time.

The Switch is similarly unavailable for pre-order, but Best Buy will be hosting local midnight launch events at various local stores. Eurogamer suspects that this is a move to prevent people from forfeiting purchasing day-one title releases like 1-2-Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Nintendo Switch previews are dropping today, but one thing we can't preview for you is how online functions will look or work.

The lack of virtual console support at launch for the Switch doesn't come as much of a surprise, considering the rest of the Switch launch plans. Say you have two consoles, and you buy a cart for a game.

Nintendo also shared additional news about the launch of Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch.

You can choose a nickname or how you want to get referred to by Nintendo services, typically your first name.

The Nintendo Switch console is lacking in a variety of areas for some gamers.

The Japanese electronics and gaming company stated that the Nintendo services will be free when it launches because some of the key features are not yet installed at that time.
