Couple leave waitress a $400 tip - and an even bigger surprise

If you were feeling a little jealous after hearing about the $4,000 tip that Shaquille O'Neal left for his server, then you're going to be downright green with envy when you hear this story.

Cayla Chandara is a waitress at Noi Thai Cuisine, and she happened to wait on a very nice couple from Australia.

While these a-holes made a decision to leave a "lecture" instead of a tip, and these diners left a "LOL" instead of a tip, one couple eating at a popular Waikiki restaurant chose to leave something a tad better - like $400 better. "During dinner, they told me where they were staying, so I ran there after work to see if they'd still be there".

The altruistic couple has chosen to remain anonymous, but told Chandara the best way she could thank them was to just "be her best self". "I just wanted to say thank you, '" Chandara said.

"I initially told them I couldn't take that offer, but they insisted that it would be just as great for them to do it for me", Chandara said.

This real talk must have struck a chord with the affable Aussies, because on top of the couple's $200 tab, Chandara realized they left her a $400 tip! I had to say thank you. After telling them that she'd moved to Honolulu to go to school but ended up in so much debt that she couldn't return due to the cost of living, she expected nothing but the usual 20 percent that customers (hopefully) leave after getting good service.

The next day, the couple came back to the restaurant and offered to help pay off her student loan debt amounting to more than $10,000.

"They told me the best way to thank them is to be my best possible self, dream big and strive for my goals", Chandara said.

They were, and Chandara was able to give them a thank-you card and flowers.

"I was like, 'No way, you don't have to do that for me".

And that's exactly what the server plans on doing when she goes back to study liberal arts and business.
