North Korea condemns US for bringing "huge" nuclear assets to region

"If North Korea conducts a strategic provocation such as a nuclear test or an intercontinental ballistic missile launch, there is certain to be powerful punitive measure that will be hard for the North Korean regime to endure", the South's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The United States has warned that its policy of "strategic patience" is over.

US Vice President Mike Pence will travel to South Korea on Sunday in what his aides said was a sign of the US commitment to its ally.

Vice foreign minister Han Song Ryol said the situation in the peninsula is now in a "vicious circle".

According to AP report, Han Song Ryol said, " The situation on the Korean Peninsula is now in a "vicious cycle".

Mr Trump commented on North Korea after he was asked about the U.S. military's decision to drop the largest non-nuclear weapon it has ever used in combat on an area of eastern Afghanistan.

On Saturday, it marks the "Day of the Sun", the 105th anniversary of the birth of state founder Kim Il Sung.

Early Friday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi weighed in, saying there would be no winners in an armed conflict between the US and North Korea.

Mr. Xi and Mr. Trump have agreed by phone that "the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula shall be achieved through peaceful means".

"Military force can not resolve the issue", Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told reporters in Beijing on Thursday. "Amid tensions we will also find a kind of opportunity to return to talks".

With President Donald Trump's administration not ruling out a military option to dealing with North Korea, "tension is certainly rising", Abe said Wednesday to a group of lawmakers from his ruling party who sought increased safety measures for Japanese nationals in case of an emergency. If China decides to help, that would be great.

So the United States has at least succeeded in getting China to be more forthright about this terrifying problem.

And a United States aircraft carrier and its naval strike group has been diverted to the Korean peninsula.

Another U.S. official also dismissed the report, calling it "speculative at best".

The Pentagon declined to comment, saying, as a policy, it does not discuss future operations "nor publicly speculate on possible scenarios".

Earlier this week, North Korea threatened the US with a nuclear strike if it attempted to interfere with testing, but it is not believed it has the capability to pose a serious nuclear risk at long range.

South Korea and the United States say the sole goal of the THAAD is to guard against North Korean missiles, but China says that its powerful radar could penetrate its territory.

"Trump is always making provocations with his aggressive words", Han said.

Regardless of whether NBC's source remains credible, recent evidence suggests that North Korea may be gearing up for its sixth nuclear test underground. "In fact, the U.S.is working to reassure us that it will not, just in case that we might hold such concerns".
