Trump's first year of travel spending could top Obama's 8-year total

President Trump is on track to beat his predecessor in travel spending several times over. To get an idea of how much Trump is spending on travel, CNN used available costs from a four-day trip Obama took to Florida in 2013 - $3.6 million.

To date, Trump has spent six weekends (a total of 21 days) at his private Palm Beach club.

Every trip to Mar-a-Lago totals at $3 million to cover the President's security detail.

Back in December, conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch found that Obama spent nearly $97 million on travel during his two terms as president - about $12 million a year. The Obama's trips included vacations to Aspen and the family's annual vacation to Martha's Vineyard.

CNN had reported that the president's travel budget is "on pace to surpass 8 years of Obama's travel spending in 1 year". The proposed cuts, which will likely be adopted, will work alongside the $54 billion increase in defense spending.

Remember Trump all the way back in August of 2016: "I'm going to be working for you".

Trump is said to be particularly fond of his New Jersey property. In a sign of his love for the club, Trump has expressed a desire to be buried on the property.

"The habitual vacationer, @BarackObama, is now in Hawaii".

Trump himself drew attention to the issue when he called Obama a "habitual vacationer" who was costing taxpayers money.

Trump later tweeted: "President @BarackObama's vacation is costing taxpayers millions of dollars--Unbelievable!" Trump and his family have proven to be the most expensive first family to protect.

Separately, First Lady Melania Trump lives not in the White House but in a penthouse of Trump Tower in Manhattan.

What's interesting is that before his inauguration, Trump regularly criticized Obama for playing golf while holding office.

The extensive needs of the Trump family have put strains staffing on the Secret Service, too.

Kelly also acknowledged the strain the Secret Service is under. You could nearly fund the entire $148 million budget for the National Endowment of the Arts-a number that the administration wants to zero out-with the money the President is spending on lounging around at one of his name-brand golf resorts on the weekends.
