Former NFL star kills his 3-year-old child in heartbreaking accident


The former Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals tight end was moving his truck forward in his driveway when the child was hit, according to Arizona police.

Police say the girl was in her driveway when her father went to move their truck and hit her Friday.

The girl was taken to a local hospital, where she died, according to the station.

He was selected to two Pro Bowls in his career. "This is knee-buckling news and overwhelmingly sad tragedy".

Each year another 2,400 are injured in such accidents. He played ten seasons with Baltimore, becoming the franchise's all-time leader in touchdown catches and second all-time in receptions and yards.

In a statement, the Cardinals called the death "a grief that is beyond words and one which no family should experience". Texans star DE J.J. Watt tweeted out: "Absolutely gutted for Todd Heap and his family, thoughts are with them, in this incredibly tough time".

Officials say the investigation is ongoing and that Heap showed no signs of impairment after the tragic accident.

There has been an outpouring of grief and condolences from Todd's fellow National Football League players.

The incident happened at a home near Eagle Crest Drive and Las Sendas Mountain Drive in Mesa just before 4 p.m.
