Zidane: Madrid is Isco's home

Just as it appeared as if the game was destined to finish all square, he collected the ball on the edge of the box and caught Cuéllar out with a low drilled effort which crept inside the near post.

Zinedine Zidane's decision to rest Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema paid off, as Real Madrid claimed a 3-2 win over Sporting Gijon.

'Substitute? Zidane creates the line-ups and is taking the squad in an extraordinary direction, ' Isco said. We didn't have much time to rest, those that have come in have been phenomenal and that is what makes the team great. They don't have many minutes, but that's what makes a team great.

Real Madrid sought joy down the flanks, but their strikers seemed in need of heading practice as they missed several opportunities.

However, Real Madrid came back through Isco who went past three players before shooting into the top corner.

They beat Bayern Munich 2-1 in Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie.

Real now turn their focus to the return game against Bayern on Tuesday at the Bernabeu, before next weekend's potentially decisive El Clasico with Barcelona.

Centerback Sergio Ramos was the only first-choice player in Madrid's starting 11, which included rare showings by backs Fabio Coentrao and Danilo and midfielders Marco Asensio and James Rodriguez.

"I feel unfair to all of those who do not play - there are 24 players and it will always happen".

Alvaro Morata levelled to pave the way for Isco's victor and Zidane - whose side host Barcelona next weekend - told his postmatch news conference: "Isco played a great game and deserved to give the team the victory".

This led to Tottenham fans on social media paying special attention to the display of the 20-time capped Spain worldwide at the weekend and many were impressed.

"I want to stay at Real Madrid for many years", Isco said. "We did very well from the first minute to the last, Sporting had two chances and scored two goals, while we made many chances so the result is deserved".

The Argentinian added an assist in the contest as Barcelona saw off Real Sociedad 3-2 at Camp Nou, with the defending champions struggling to end a run of defeats at Malaga in the league and Juventus in the Champions League.
