Nintendo discontinues the NES Mini

They encouraged the fans that are interested in getting the classic console system to check with their retail outlets nationwide in regards to its availability.

During the shortage of Nintendo NES Classic Edition, Nintendo said "the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system is a hot item, and we are working hard to keep up with consumer demand".

Nintendo announced last week that it's shipping its last systems of the NES Classic Edition this month, and naturally, the prices of units being resold on eBay and Amazon have inflated. "We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product", the Nintendo spokesperson further stated. Stores that replenished their stocks of the device often only lasted minutes before they were sold out again, causing gamers to look to third-party resellers in desperation to acquire the NES Classic Edition.

During the interview, it was also mentioned that Nintendo doesn't have any plans of producing more NES Classic systems for North America.

The NES Classic Edition has also been a distraction for Nintendo's long-term plan, which is smartphone games, thus the company chose to discontinue the console.

In a surprise move, Nintendo has announced that it has ended production of the popular NES Classic. "However, due to high demand, we did add extra shipments to our original plans". This declaration also encompasses the discontinuation of the NES Classic Controller. But for now, if you really want to feed your old-school gaming nostalgia with 30 classic Nintendo games, you should try to get one now. Nintendo, though, did say they learned from the experience and it's something that they should apply in their next endeavor.

According to a report from ZDNet, Nintendo has already warned retailers that their April shipments of the classic console will be the last that they will see.
