Braves celebrate Opening Day at SunTrust Park as a success

U.S. Navy fighter jets fly over SunTrust Park during the national anthem before a baseball game between the Atlanta Braves and the San Diego Padres in Atlanta, Friday, April 14, 2017.

Ender Inciarte matched his homer total for all of last season with his third in two games and the Atlanta Braves made the opening of SunTrust Park a winning one Friday night vs. the San Diego Padres.

On Sunday from SunTrust Park, the San Diego Padres and the Atlanta Braves will be continuing their weekend Major League Baseball series.

Colon, who turns 44 in May, was sharp against his old team in NY on April 5, allowing just a run and two hits over six innings in a no-decision against the Mets. Hammerin' Hank Aaron blasted the first home run out of that park. Inciarte also hit the first home run, coming in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Julio Teheran (1-0) was a bit wild but lasted six innings. Ryan Schimpf walked and Erick Aybar was hit by a pitch, setting up Chacin's run-scoring dribbler and Manuel Margot's RBI single.

The Braves are 4-6 after a 1-6 start, while the Padres (5-7) have lost three in a row. Dickey's line closed with 6 IP, 7 hits, 1 BB, 6 K's and gave up 2 earned runs, off the home runs in the 2nd inning. Because Melissa and Caine Carpenter were the first people through the gates, they won a package for four to travel anywhere in the world that Delta Airlines flies, as well as Braves "First Fans" jerseys.

Then Brandon Phillips singled with one out in the fifth, Adonis Garcia followed with a walk and Tyler Flowers hit a single that scored both of them. San Diego found an unlikely source for offense in Saturday's loss as catcher Austin Hedges - who came into the game just 2-for-31 on the season - collected two hits and slugged a solo homer.

R.A. Dickey got the start for the Atlanta Braves in the second game of a three-game set against the Padres.

Chapman allowed a two-out walk to Randal Grichuk and a double to pinch-hitter Jose Martinez before Dexter Fowler - the closer's teammate on the World Series champion Cubs a year ago - grounded out to second to end it. Chapman got his third save on the season.

Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman said the show of force from the team's former stars was impressive.

Braves: OF Matt Kemp (hamstring) ran before the game and isn't expected to need a rehab stint in the minors before he's eligible to return on Tuesday. "The bullpen picked me up and we won the (Wednesday) game".

Clayton Kershaw allowed a run and four hits with eight strikeouts and one walk in 8 1/3 innings to beat former teammate and Diamondbacks pitcher Zack Greinke.

Braves: RHP Bartolo Colon (0-1) is 3-3 with a 4.12 ERA in seven starts against the Padres. The team said the move was based largely on their desire to be able to control and develop their own land, something they were not able to do at Turner Field because the facility and adjacent land was owned and leased by the city of Atlanta and Fulton County.
