Ex-NFL star Hernandez found dead in prison cell

Since then, more details have came out regarding what happened inside that cell.

It is named for two former prisons workers killed in 1972 during an aborted escape attempt.

According to Wetzel, as the second murder trial progressed, Hernandez - facing a life of relative isolation - increasingly began to talk and joke with others in the courtroom.

"You could tell that he was relieved as well", Ronald Sullivan Jr., his defense attorney, said after the verdict.

A prison spokesman told the Boston Globe that Hernandez had not been on a suicide watch and did not indicate that he meant to harm himself.

Hernandez, Coyne points out, is hardly the first high-profile case in MA where a conviction was vacated in this manner.

Former Roman Catholic priest John Geoghan's child molestation conviction was vacated after he was beaten to death in his prison cell in 2003.

State police were investigating the circumstances of the death of the former rising star in the National Football League, and a coroner was performing an autopsy on Wednesday. The department says corrections officers attempted lifesaving techniques, but to no avail.

Hernandez's death comes on the same day that President Donald Trump will host his former team the Patriots - which won the premier American football championship, the Superbowl, in early February - at the White House.

"We intend, at this point, to go forward with the cases".

Hernandez was serving a life sentence for the murder of Odin Lloyd in 2013. Most of the assaults, which allegedly occurred from 2010 to 2012, took place in the victims' homes, authorities said.

Former New England Patriots Tight End Aaron Hernandez, who was just acquitted of a double murder days ago, but, was serving a life sentence for a prior murder conviction, was found dead in his jail cell early Wednesday morning, MA prison officials announced this morning.

The sources also said investigators are looking into the possibility that the Hernandez may have smoked synthetic marijuana called K2 Tuesday night. He was 27 years old. He said that officials had no concern that Hernandez might take his own life, and said if they had had any such worries he would have been transferred to a mental health unit.

Hernandez was serving a life sentence for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd.

"Especially after him getting acquitted of the double murder". At 3 a.m. ET, prison officials discovered Hernandez hanging by a bed sheet attached to the window in his cell, in which he was the only occupant. Based on those markings, combined with the Bible verse, it's possible that Hernandez was trying to draw stigmata markings on his body before committing suicide. Hernandez had fashioned a barricade by jamming various cell items against the door of his single cell and was found there alone this morning.
