Fresno shooting rampage: 3 victims identified

Now investigators have to piece together what drove Kori Ali Muhammad, 39, to open fire Tuesday afternoon and determine if what he did could be considered a hate crime.

A security guard was shot and killed five days earlier by Muhammad, police say.

When Zackary Randalls knew he wanted to propose his future wife, Katie, his friend tattooed "Will you marry me?" with check boxes for "Yes" or "No" on his knees.

The mother of a man killed at a Fresno motel days before the same suspect was accused of a shooting rampage says she's grateful she told her son she loved him before he died.

Witnesses said they saw a man carrying a large handgun, who reloaded it several times between shots. He was 34-years-old and left behind two preschoolers and a wife.

Randalls had been working at the Fashion Fair mall before he chose to take a job at Pacific Gas & Electric Co., Randalls thought it would be a good move for his family's future, his friends said.

"They were his whole world", his friend, Jonathan Gilbert, said.

"He (Randalls) was truly the best person I've ever known", Contente said.

Randalls had only been working at the utility's call center for about month when he went on a ride-along Tuesday morning. - Muhammad then walked south on Van Ness and then west on Mildreda, saw a white male walking out of his shot twice at him, the man fell to the ground.

Gilbert said the 34-year-old Clovis resident was revered by friends, family and coworkers, some of whom have been moved to donate to growing memorial funds online.

"He was just an awesome person". The 25-year-old was shot and killed while responding to an incident at the motel Muhammad was visiting. It was one of his fondest memories of being with Gassett, he said. Wagner said the funeral date has not been set.

Gassett, who grew up in Fresno, attended Central High School, according to the Central Unified School District. "It's a tragedy for the security industry", Sanchez said. "He would be one of those people that would give his shirt off of his back if they needed it and help with food or anything".

Gassett had two sons, 9 and 13, according to his mom Rosie Wagner. "He loves his kids", his stepfather said. David Martin Jackson, 58 shot and killed outside of the Catholic Charities office on Fulton Street.

Mark Greer told the Fresno Bee that Jackson tried to reason with the gunman.

The gunman chased after him.

Gassett and Jackson were both clients of Catholic Charities and shot near the charity's Fresno headquarters. But something like this? He wanted to eat.

Prosecutors say Muhammad is expected to be charged with four counts of murder in the three killings Tuesday and in the slaying last week of a motel security guard.

On Tuesday morning, he had gone to buy items to practice voodoo but stopped at a Starbucks instead, where he used the wi-fi to watch a news broadcast from ABC Fresno station KFSN, which identified him as the suspect in Williams' murder. Muhammad, who is black, fired 16 rounds in less than two minutes at four places within a block, shooting men who appeared to be going about their day, authorities say. Williams was not armed.

"He (Gassett) kept saying that he was going to get sick, but I got sick. He didn't deserve this".
