Guardiola Hoping Kompany Stays Fit

Sane and Aguero scored the remaining two goals and Guardiola praised his skipper for the opener.

City's win moved them back into third place but Guardiola said that third is the best they can hope for, because Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have the top two places secured.

"The performance was really good", said Guardiola after the match.

According to The Mirror, Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany is attracting interest from both Everton and West Ham United ahead of the summer transfer window.

"So hopefully he can be fit for the rest of the season because he's an important player for us".

"That is why I am so, so glad for the fans we have because for the first time in my life I have experienced that".

"I'm going to see the game to see United because we play them in 10 days and I want to see how they play in case I can discover something".

"In the first half it was not easy to find the right spaces, but we created enough chances to score goals", added Guardiola.

Sane notched his ninth goal of the season following a tremendous display on the counter attack.

Despite opening a seven-point gap between themselves and Manchester United Guardiola still feels that the game against Jose Mourinho's men is the "real final".

"Southampton will nearly certainly fall short of emulating last season's sixth-place finish but Puel's first season in charge has been one of promise, irritatingly undermined by a succession of injuries to key players".

Southampton could have levelled after 74 minutes when Maya Yoshida powered a header too close to Bravo, but four minutes later they were out of the game thanks to a brilliant City goal.

City strolled to victory at St Mary's but can expect a far tougher test at Wembley on Sunday when they face Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-finals. Southampton, meanwhile, sit safely in mid-table with 40 points from 31 games. In the event that you would like to eventually become a more powerful club as well as a more powerful team you CAn't drop points at home; because our quality is higher we cannot drop points. We didn't show today a good Southampton with good quality on the pitch.
