House Oversight Chairman Chaffetz Says He Won't Seek Re-Election

"Many of you have heard me advocate, 'Get in, serve, and get out.' After more than 1,500 nights away from my home, it is time. I've always believed that", said Chaffetz, (R) Utah.

When asked about whether he's considering a run for Utah Governor in 2020, as some have speculated, Chaffetz said he has not ruled it out.

"One day at a time". "Wish him the best".

It is not a coincidence that Chaffetz announced his decision after the Georgia House special election provided more evidence of a blue wave building for 2018. He said he made the decision after consulting his "family and prayerful consideration". However, his positions appear to align perfectly with the Trump administration; in addition to his tax and Planned Parenthood stances, he's a "religious freedom" proponent and a climate change denier who wants to sell off public land, and has, like the President, called vaccine safety into question. He declined to investigate Trump's massive business interests despite promises to ferociously continue investigating Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton following an investigation into her use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state. I have no doubt the 3rd Congressional District will be represented by a Republican. When he led an unsuccessful effort to scuttle the District's new assisted suicide law in February, it attracted the attention of several D.C. groups eager for local sovereignty and newly energized by the November elections.

Russian Federation has blackmail material on Utah Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz, which is why he will not seek re-election. Others formed a super PAC initially focused on ousting Chaffetz.

Chaffetz, 50, had in the past considered running for a Senate seat and in announcing his retirement from the House at the end of his term next year he is leaving open that option.

Approximately half of the voters in Chaffetz's 3rd congressional district, which spans from Salt Lake to southeastern Utah, are registered Republicans.

President Trump has never been especially popular in Utah, a majority Mormon state, and Chaffetz's support of the president had earned him heaps of scorn at town halls. According to an intel community source, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has learned that Russian Federation has "kompromat" blackmail material on Chaffetz and has been using it to keep him in line with regard to Trump's Russian Federation scandal.

Some criticized the Utah Republican.
