Lotus also removed the gas struts for the hatch to save 2.2 pounds.

Prices for the new Lotus Exige Cup 380 start from £83,000 in the United Kingdom and €109,900 in Germany.

Based on the already remarkable Exige Sport 380, the Exige Cup 380 has been thoroughly modified to produce a harder, more focused auto. The Exige Cup 380 also receives a new aerodynamic package that increases the car's downforce by 43-percent, totaling an extra 441 pounds of extra push.

Under the hood, the Cup 380 uses the same motor as the Sport 380 - a supercharged, 3.5-liter V6 putting out 375 horsepower and 302 pound-feet of torque.

This gives the Cup 380 a power-to-weight ratio of 355bhp per tonne, and powers the vehicle to a top speed of 175mph. Lightweight parts come for the front splitter, access panel, roof, diffuser surround, side pods, tailgate, and rear wing - and they also deliver 441 pounds (200 kilograms) of downforce at 175 miles per hour (282 kph) - a 40 percent increase over the Sport 380. An optional titanium exhaust further reduces the car's weight by another 22 pounds. Nearly everything that could've been done to reduce weight has been.

The supercharged Toyota-sourced 3.5-litre V6 continues to make 375hp at 6,700rpm and 410Nm (302lb-ft) of torque at 5,000rpm and is mated to a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox with a attractive open-gate design. With the two elements working in combination, this huge boost in grip allows the vehicle to corner harder and faster which, given with the Exige's existing reputation as a driver's auto, elevates it to a whole new level. It's also ready for the track by having a standard roll bar and four stability control modes, including Race and Off, six positions for the traction control giving between 0 and 12 percent of wheel slip.

Sporting Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires as standard, the Exige Cup 380 grips the road like a scared rabbit running from an apex predator. A steel roll bar is standard, as are front and rear tow hooks.

The hand finished nature of the Exige Cup 380 continues inside, with Lotus' carbon fibre sports seats trimmed in Alcantara®, with leather or tartan as a no cost option, with contrast stitching and an Alcantara® steering wheel. Buyers can spec their auto with an FIA compliant roll cage, full race harness, electrical cut-off, race steering wheel, and fire extinguisher controls as well as deleting the airbags.

For owners wanting more, the new Exige Cup 380 can be personalised through the increasingly popular Lotus Exclusive programme. In the United Kingdom, buyers will spend £83,000 in the United Kingdom and €109,900 in Europe.
