Mike Pence: WH Moving to 'Isolate' NKorea After Failed Test

Jean-Francois Fiorina, a professor of Geopolitics at Grenoble Ecole de Management in France, said Donald Trump believes he can have an influence on the situation in North Korea - something he said is not the case.

On Sunday, as part of celebrations to mark the birthday of late North Korean founder Kim Il Sung, state television aired a concert which included a video showing the USA engulfed in flames.

Pence, who yesterday travelled to Japan, arrived in South Korea just hours after North Korea launched its latest ballistic missile - which exploded within a few seconds - and amid a weekend of fanfare in North Korea, during which the regime showed off what appeared to be new missiles.

The U.S. hope is to achieve the denuclearization of North Korea by working with China, Japan and other allies in the region through peaceable means, the vice president added.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence is making a pitch for President Donald Trump's economic policies, telling U.S. and Japanese business leaders that a tax overhaul and cut in regulations will help business on both sides of the Pacific.

Tensions on the peninsula have ratcheted up in recent weeks amid sabre-rattling from both the United States and North Korea.

Such actions, as well as Trump's vow to root out alleged unfair trade practices around the world, have sent shivers through Japan Inc, which has a huge presence in the US.

“North Korea would do well not to test his resolve or the strength of the armed forces of the United States in this region, ” Pence said. While the North did not conduct a nuclear test, the specter of a potential test and an escalated USA response has trailed Pence as he undertakes his Asian tour.

At the start of his meeting later Tuesday with Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, Ross said he expects the dialogue to lead to a bilateral accord.

"The leader of North Korea again recklessly tried to provoke something by launching a missile", he said.

The American vice president is on a 10-day trip to Asia that has been dominated by the North Korea issue. The high-profile failure came as the North tried to showcase its nuclear and missile capabilities around the birth anniversary of the North's late founder and as a USA aircraft carrier neared the Korean Peninsula.

Deputy National Adviser K.T. McFarland briefed the President on the failed missile launch.

But any strikes against the North would probably bring the USA into a diplomatic crisis with China, the North's main economic lifeline.

Pence - speaking to sailors and Marines gathered Wednesday on the USS Ronald Reagan at Yokosuka naval base - repeated the Trump administration's line that all options to end North Korea's nuclear program were on the table.

"They are listening", Bash first posed to the Vice President in Tokyo, Japan.

Along with the deployment of the USA aircraft carrier and other vessels into waters off the Korean Peninsula, thousands of US and South Korean troops, tanks and other weaponry were deployed last month in their biggest joint military exercises.

Tension has been building on the peninsula in recent days, amid warnings that the country's nuclear site is "primed and ready" for another test.
