Monaco to play Juventus in UEFA Champions League semi-final draw

Monaco to play Juventus in UEFA Champions League semi-final draw

They triumphed 4-1 after extra time in Lisbon in 2013-14 and edged Atletico on penalties in Milan last term after the game ended 1-1.

"The other two (Real and Monaco) are fighting for the championship (as are Juventus) so that could be a factor".

The teams that were picked first for each fixture will play the first leg at home - i.e. Real Madrid and Monaco.

The return legs will be the following week.

Barcelona face bitter rivals Real Madrid on Sunday evening, while they take on Deportivo Alavés in the final of the Copa del Rey at the Vicente Calderón on May 27. Real also defeated Atletico in the 2015 quarterfinals.

Juventus is seeking its first title since 1996 and third overall, while neither Monaco nor Atletico Madrid has won a European title.

Brazilian star Neymar will return to action for Barcelona and he will hope to repeat his heroic performance against PSG when his side face Juventus.

Ajax is back in a European semifinal for the first time since the Champions League in 1997.

Monaco's high-scoring young team have attracted plenty of admirers this season, with manager Leonardo Jardim insisting they will stay true to their attacking style in the semi-final.

"We played Juventus two years ago in the quarter-finals and since then they have strengthened themselves".

The draw was made on Friday, with United and Lyon getting home matches in the second legs.

Zinedine Zidane's side who are the favourites, could become the first club to retain the trophy in the Champions League era and a record 12 title.
