NFL Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots Visit White House

Super Bowl champion New England Patriots blasted The New York Times for spreading fake news about the number of Patriots' players who attended their White House ceremony.

Trump touted his friendship with Brady long before running for office, and he missed few opportunities to invoke the quarterback's name while on the campaign trail. ".This year's championship was achieved after falling behind by 25 points, a deficit so great that in the 97-year history of the National Football League, over 20,000 games, that deficit had only been overcome seven times".

The Patriots doubled down on this, but with a photo from George W. Bush's term, "the last time the Patriots won two Super Bowls in three years".

"I am so happy and excited that our team is being honored at the White House today", Brady said Wednesday in his statement.

Patriots owner Robert K. Kraft contributed $1 million to Trump's inauguration, according to Federal Election Commission filings.

Galynn Brady, Tom's mother, has been battling cancer and is now in Boston which may be the reason for his inability to attend the event. Trump frequently describes Brady as a friend. The high-profile player - who is married to Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen - said he had "personal family matters" to attend to.

The press secretary, who is a Patriots fan, responded by saying, "I think I got this but thank you".

To be fair, when teams win championships as often as the Patriots, a trip to the White House might not have the same distinction as it would otherwise.

"All right ... that was cool", he says as the press corps and Spicer all let out a laugh.

President Donald Trump welcomed the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots to the White House on Wednesday, describing their comeback victory over the Atlanta Falcons as "legendary".

Six of Brady's teammates have also said that they will not be attending the Wednesday's ceremony in White House due to concerns about President Donald Trump.

The visit came the same day that former Patriot Aaron Hernandez killed himself in prison, where he was serving a life sentence for murder.

"I don't feel accepted in the White House", McCourty said of his reason for boycotting the event.

"Here's what gripes me ― the scrutiny with which the visit to the White House has been handled by the press", James said.
