Oilers hope to find more offence in Game 4

Oilers hope to find more offence in Game 4

Joe Pavelski bounced a deflected puck past Cam Talbot, opening the floodgates in drought-stricken California and bringing a sellout crowd of towel-waving maniacs to their feet.

The first of four San Jose successful power plays completed the scoring for the first period.

The San Jose power play had four goals by game's end, feasting on an Oilers team that's been undisciplined from the start.

The loss was the worst of the season for Edmonton and couldn't have come at a worse time. But all was salvaged with an absolute 7-0 beat down by the playoff hardened, experienced Sharks club over the young, upstart Oilers. The Preds have done a hell of a job shutting the Blackhawks down, with the Hawks scoring for the 1st time in Game 3 only to blow a 2 goal lead and lose in OT. The previous record was 28 seconds (Dany Heatley vs. Los Angeles in 2011 during a 3-2 win). Leon Draisaitl was issued a five-minute major and game misconduct at 13:44, pitchforking Chris Tierney in the groin as the two battled in the corner.

With a new lineup, the Sharks held the possession edge with eight of their 12 forwards being above 50 percent on the shot attempts ledger.

"Tonight was a big lesson", said head coach Todd McLellan.

This series is getting testy (big shock, right?) so expect the Bruins to come out and try and play their trademark brand of hockey tonight in an attempt to even the series.

"It was completely one-sided". While the odds are still against them, they have at least given their fans some hope, and brought the series a little closer to where folks thought it should be. Zack Kassian, who scored seven goals in 79 games during the regular season and none in the first nine playoff contests of his career, recorded the game-winner in each of the Oilers' victories - including a short-handed tally in Game 2. Tonight got away from us. Captain Connor McDavid was kept off the scoresheet in Game 3, ending his 16-game point streak that began on March 14. It started with Couture rifling a shot from the past Talbot at 11:02 of the first period with defenceman Kris Russell in the penalty box for hooking. Let it be the salve that soothes the scars of a history-making 7-0 arse-whupping here on Tuesday, if you are an Oiler fan in need of such a thing. "I was able to score that one on the power play". Including the postseason, the Sharks have played 2,192 games. The five-hole score would be Pavelski's second goal on the night, putting the Sharks up 6-0. They replied with a character game and ran the Sharks out of the building to even the series. Pavelski and Couture each scored twice, Pavelski added an assist, Marleau had a goal and an assist, and Burns assisted on three others. "It's very impressive to see, but if we just focus on our game and take care, we should be fine". The Sharks utterly outplayed Edmonton in Game 1 at Rogers Place, but a amusing thing happened between that dismal effort last Wednesday and Game 2 on Friday - the Oilers regrouped, like winning teams do.

"We'll keep trying, keep looking and keep fighting", Pavelski said.

"We wrapped it all up into one night".

"As a goalie, you want to make an extra save or two here and there", Talbot said. "You can't say enough about him right now", Talbot said.

Downtown Edmonton is about to get a little more orange prior to Thursday's home game. You don't get two games for winning 7-0 so the series is still 2-2 and we're still in a good spot. "It is about a shift in momentum".
