Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro launched in India for Rs. 27990

Apparently helped by the robust performance of its chip business, the company's operating profit is estimated at 9.9 trillion won ($8.76 billion) in the January-March period, compared with 6.68 trillion won posted a year earlier, the South Korean tech giant said in its regulatory filing.

That would be its biggest Q1 profit ever, coming close to its overall profit record set in Q3 2013 and representing a almost 50 per cent increase on the same period previous year when Samsung made 6.68 trillion won. Sales hit 50 trillion won, up 0.44 percent on year but down 6.24 percent on quarter, suggesting the world's largest chipmaker that is also a leader in smartphones and home appliances has done well in high-end products.

The hefty profits highlight Samsung's resilience after the embarrassing recall of its fire-prone Note 7 smartphone previous year. Figures were boosted this year due to increasing demand for memory chips and display screens. Not only are they seeing success in their own Exynos SoC, but continued business from Qualcomm for the upcoming Snapdragon 835 SoC has also added to this increase in profits.

Samsung has launched yet another "Pro" device in India, the Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro.

Lee's lawyer flatly denied the charges.

Samsung has released its Q1 2017 estimates a week after unveiling its 2017 flagship smartphones i.e. the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ at its "Unpacked" event in NY.

Samsung has been grabbing headlines over the past year for all the wrong reasons.

The South Korean firm's Galaxy Note 7 smartphone was plagued with problems.

Greenpeace East Asia campaigner Jude Lee said (via BBC): "While we welcome this news, Samsung must share as soon as possible more detailed timelines on when it will implement its promises, as well as how it intends to change its production system to make sure this never happens again". It led to the suspension of President Park Geun-hye for allegedly receiving bribes.

The court is expected to deliver a verdict by the end of May.
