Timeline: Key moments in the life of Aaron Hernandez

He was convicted and sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. Fox 25 says there was blood on the cell wall. According to the Globe, Hernandez is the 27th recorded suicide at the prison since 2010. But during his trial for the killings of two men in 2012, he appeared upbeat, backslapping his lawyers, letting out bellowing laughs and blowing kisses to his 4-year-old daughter and other family members in the audience. "Those who love and care about him are heartbroken and determined to find the truth surrounding his untimely death".

Under Massachusetts law, defense attorneys can seek to have convictions vacated when a defendant dies before an appeal is heard.

Authorities say Hernandez was found hanging in his MA prison cell early Wednesday and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Murphy's speculation comes after Hernandez's lawyer Jose Baez expressed similar speculation and launched a private investigation into the former National Football League star's death.

Those cryptic details emerged Thursday as authorities ruled Hernandez's death a suicide and turned his body over to a funeral home so his family could lay him to rest.

When officials at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in MA responded to Aaron's cell Wednesday morning, the verse John 3:16 was scribbled above his eyes, this according to WBZ Boston.

Early says Massachusetts' chief medical examiner is conducting an autopsy in Boston to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

Guards found the 27-year-old Hernandez hanging from a bedsheet in his cell Wednesday morning at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley, Massachusetts, where he was serving a life sentence for a murder conviction.

It was supremely ironic, and not a little tragic, that on the day that his former teammates were on their way to the White House, Aaron Hernandez was on his way to the morgue.

Patriots spokesman Stacey James said: "We are aware of the reports but I don't anticipate that we will be commenting today".

But the team released him in 2013 after he was arrested in the killing of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee. Hernandez was acquitted just days ago of the 2012 shootings of two other men in Boston.

Hernandez, a former National Football League star, who was serving a life sentence for a murder conviction and Friday, April 14, 2017, was acquitted of a double murder, died after hanging himself at the prison early Wednesday, April 19, 2017, MA prisons officials said.

Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Communications Christopher Fallon also says Wednesday that officials had no concern that Hernandez was planning on taking his own life. He said officials had no reason to believe Hernandez might take his life, and if they had had any such worries, he would have been transferred to a mental health unit.

Hernandez was serving a life sentence for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd. The onetime tight end for the New England Patriots was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead about an hour later.

Today, some are questioning why Hernandez would take his own life - MA prison officials say he hung himself in his cell - just when things seemed to be looking better for his future.

"Especially after him getting acquitted of the double murder".

In addition, Hernandez tried to block the door of his cell from inside placing numerous objects.

The former University of Florida standout died five days after a jury acquitted him in those two deaths, which prosecutors alleged were precipitated by one of the men accidentally spilling a drink on Hernandez at a Boston nightclub.
