Wall, Beal pace Wizards past Hawks

The 114 points the Hawks allowed in Game 1 was the 4th most points any team allowed during the playoffs heading into Wednesday's action.

According to the NBA's PIE Player Impact Estimate, or PIE, rating, which measures a player's overall statistical contribution against the total statistics in games they play in, Wall was responsible for a third of all game events (points, rebounds, assists, etc.) in the third quarter, almost double his average during the regular season (15.3).

In a rough-and-tumble, foul-filled game, Bradley Beal took over in the fourth quarter with 16 of his 31 points, including a key late 3-pointer, helping the Washington Wizards beat the Atlanta Hawks 109-101 on Wednesday night for a 2-0 lead in their Eastern Conference first-round series. "Tonight we didn't really get it going and we had some dry spots but we won the game with our defense", said Warriors star Stephen Curry.

I understand that the Hawks are in desperate need of a backup point guard and they need some ball handling with Schroder off the court, but Jose Calderon played 8 minutes in a playoff game in 2017. Meanwhile, the Hawks had four of their starters score double digit points in game two, and they still lost by eight points. The Wizards will look to grab at least one win away from home to help finish things off. Gortat finished the night 7/10 from the field and was the unsung hero in the game.

It was the first time Washington played a Game One in the playoffs in its home arena in 37 years, and the team made sure not to disappoint its fans. "If we're going to jostle the whole series, that's what it's going to be". He plays with a chip on his shoulder. He would hit back-to-back stepbacks a few minutes later and dished an assist for a Jason Smith dunk on the following possession. This particular streak went a long way in helping the Wizards secure a playoff win.

Wall said the injury was on his mind coming into the series since most believe it was the deciding factor for the Wizards' elimination. "I know he's a guy that is going to pick up defensively full court".

Despite the historic night, Westbrook failed to find his teammates with passes as he appeared to run out of steam in the final quarter. I always tell him at certain times, you just got to be aggressive and look for your shot. I would have been like a bowling ball, crashing into everybody.

The first three quarters of this one were ugly, with tons of whistles, sloppy play and poor shooting.

Washington, which trailed 78-74 entering the final period, won despite a total of only seven points from starting forwards Markieff Morris and Otto Porter Jr., who were both in foul trouble early. Howard had six points and seven rebounds.

Paul Millsap (27 points on 14-of-15 free-throw shooting) needed no adjusting to the style he sought and hunted fouls relentlessly.

For his part, Wall attributed the deluge of points to Morris' aggressiveness.
