Wide area of San Francisco hit by power outage

The outage includes the Financial District and other areas.

As of 10:20 a.m. Friday, PG&E is reporting 96,815 customers in San Francisco without power. It was not known if that was the source of the outage. One downtown commuter rail station has been shut down.

A power outage struck a wide area of San Francisco on Friday, blacking out about 90,000 utility customers. According to BART, the station was evacuated trains did not stop at the station during the incident.

Muni cable auto service is also affected by the power outage, which are now not running, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.

Officials with the Municipal Transportation Agency said the outage was also affecting cable cars and shuttles were put in place to provide service.

A friend of SFist says the outage was affecting large buildings downtown including 555 California Street and 560 Mission. "In a movie people would be freaking out". The outage is reportedly widespread from Union Square to the Marina and has also triggered the closure of BART's Montgomery station. PG&E does not have an ETA on when power will be restored.
