Ronaldo a class apart as real put foot in final

The contentious goal came in the September 2010 win over Real Sociedad that Madrid triumphed 2-1.

However, despite the glittering European night for Real, Ronaldo urged his team-mates to remain focused ahead of next week's return fixture at Vicente Calderon Stadium. I've prepared myself and things have turned out well, not just for me, but for the team, too. We know that we are going to have to suffer when we go there.

"Atletico are a very fine, strong side and it's not by chance that they're in the semi-finals".

The 32-year-old lauded his team-mates for a performance which has them in control of the tie heading into next week's second leg. The Portuguese spoke to Real Madrid television on Wednesday about his 400 goal for the club and the team's objectives.

"Cristiano is a goalscorer".

Diego Simeone and Atletico Madrid will be sick of facing Real Madrid in the Champions League.

"It's important for him to rest from time to time and he knows that", Zidane said.

"I am very happy for the goals that I have scored, and to reach 400 with Real Madrid". "It works because we have great players with great attitudes".

"The domination the team showed yesterday on the pitch shows how fresh our players are, we are very motivated and we want to go to the Champions League final".

"We need to forget about this game".

Meanwhile, Zidane was full of praise for his players after the win, identifying the Atletico Madrid victory as one of the best performance of Los Blancos since he took over the club in January 2016.

"They won the first leg of the qualifier, but the second one still remains", Simeone said, quoted on the official Atletico website.

But it's unlikely to be enough against a Real side who are on course to become the first team in the 25-year history of the Champions League to retain the title.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo asked the Real Madrid fans to stop jeering him after his latest match-winning display, in a season when he has again been the target of the Bernabeu boo-boys. We will play until the last drop of possibility we have. We also managed to achieve our target of winning and keeping a clean sheet here at home.
