Sale swoop for South Africa scrum-half Faf de Klerk

Sale swoop for South Africa scrum-half Faf de Klerk

The 25-year-old Springbok made his Test debut last year and went on to earn 11 caps in 2016 - starting nine times.

De Klerk, despite having a contract with the Lions until the end of next season, is believed to have secured an early release which will see him team up with his new outfit at the end of the current Super Rugby season, should he not be involved with the Springboks.

He will join fellow new recruits Josh Strauss and Jono Ross in a re-shaped squad at the AJ Bell stadium next season.

Sale though confirmed the move although they did not specify when De Klerk would join the club.

"I'm made up he's chose to join us", said director of rugby Steve Diamond.

"He is an unbelievable ball-carrier, has a solid kicking game and he is exciting around the pitch".

"The Lions Rugby Company can confirm that they are in negotiations with the Sale Sharks regarding the contract offered to Lions scrumhalf Faf de Klerk and will make a statement on the issue once the player has returned to South Africa", the Lions commented via a press statement.

"He's young but has massive experience and this will be crucial in helping us to build on the foundations we have put in place this year".

"Simon and Ged are intent on making Sale Sharks one of the leading clubs in the Premiership". "Faf has the vision to see where the club is heading and wants to be part of it".

This follows the signings of Josh Strauss and Jono Ross, as the Sharks aim to work their way back up the table next year.

"I'm sure there will be a lot of excitement come our first home game of next season".
