Seismic showdown set to continue in Game 6 — Sunday's Best

Seismic showdown set to continue in Game 6 — Sunday's Best

Maybe it was something no more complicated than an attempt to rattle the Capitals, to have them believe that Crosby was done for this series.

Before the second round started, Trotz said the Capitals were improved because of his players' recognition of big moments. That tied the game 2:49 into the third period.

Turris scored 6:28 into overtime to lift the Senators to 5-4 victory over the New York Rangers on Saturday for a 3-2 series lead in their second-round series. Holtby's.924 ranked fourth. Fleury's.909 ranked 37th.

All series the Capitals have been aiming to play better in front of Holtby, who had his best game of the series Saturday in stopping 20 of 22 shots.

The Washington Capitals must come out ready to destroy the Penguins in Game 6.

"It wasn't our best", Fleury said.

"They know way more about it than the rest of us do. I think everybody would agree, we have to put it behind and move on".

Burakovsky pumped some energy back in with a psychologically important goal with 29.7 seconds remaining in the first period, his first of the playoffs.

Kevin Shattenkirk's drop pass to Burakovsky led to Washington's first goal and extended the defenseman's point streak to three games. "I thought we'd been shooting too much and I think we were patient that way, waiting for good shots and it paid off". Ovechkin collected the loose puck and then beat Canada's Fleury high to the glove side.

It was a critical, momentum-changing play.

"It turns our mind around", Alex Ovechkin said. "I can't explain it".

"We have to play all together like a team and we did (Saturday). They'll do that to you". This same team has won the Presidents' Trophy three times in the last decade and they have the game's greatest goal scorer.

Early on, defenceman Dmitry Orlov was one who had means and opportunity to take a shot at No. 87 but couldn't muster a motive.

Overshadowed in what appeared to be a demotion for captain Alex Ovechkin was the corresponding move.

In fact, the only person who placed any blame on Fleury for the Backstrom goal was the goalie himself.

Coach Mike Sullivan said Crosby had a few good days.

"We're playing one of the best teams in the league", Holtby said. Crosby and Sheary may have been fresh out of injury, so expect them to try and make a bigger impact in game six tomorrow. A particularly key moment came about a minute after Backstrom's goal made it 2-2. He skated in full gear on Thursday and took part in a full-contact practice on Friday, taking rushes with usual linemates Jake Guentzel and Patric Hornqvist.

The difference for me when watching from the ice last night was the sound and the seismic measure of Game 5 when compared to the previous bouts.

Above and beyond that, they were still alive in the series.

Washington Capitals coach Barry Trotz said he needed his top players to step up in Game 5 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. "Top players make people better, and I said, you know, it's no different than [Phil] Kessel being on [Pittsburgh's] third line a year ago. I thought that goal was avoidable". "He made a couple saves, especially on Bonino, it was real uplifting on our bench". The Penguins have to improve when the series shifts back to PPG Paints Arena on Monday.

Game 6 is Sunday in Edmonton. The Penguins lead the series 3-2. Every year, they are a favorite to win the Stanley Cup. They may have been favourites in the regular season, but we are the clear favourites in the postseason. It's a little bit of an understatement that Pittsburgh has had an ability to close out teams when leading after two periods. "He can only make so many saves".
