Girl, 11, dies after falling out of ride at water park

Evha Jannath, 11, fell off a circular boat on the Splash Canyon ride at the Drayton Manor theme park around 2:20 p.m.

She was on a school trip Tuesday at the Drayton Manor theme park in Tamworth, 125 miles (200 kilometers) northwest of London, when she fell into the water. Alton Towers and Legoland Windsor are among those to have closed similar water-based white knuckle rides.

The year six pupil was airlifted to hospital following the incident, but died after being taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital.

"The young girl's death has shaken the community and we're all devastated", a spokesman from the mosque said.

The ride, which opened in 1993, is being investigated by the Health and Safety Executive. Her family sent her off to school in the morning expecting to hear about her unbelievable day at Drayton Manor but the unthinkable happened. Her school, the Jameah Academy, was also closed.
