Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (12A)

The highly-anticipated Vol. 2 hits cinemas on April 28 and Gunn says he is excited for fans to find out what Baby Groot and the gang get up to next.

However, Gunn (who wrote and directed both "GOTG" movies) seemed to cast doubt on that happening.

One area that it definitely excels in, though, is easter eggs.

He said: "I've never hidden my excitement at Groot and The Hulk going toe-to-toe in The Marvel Universe".

Pratt features as Star-Lord in "Guardians of the Galaxy". Either way, they're all fun nods and references that should definitely be on your radar. For more on the film you can read Haleigh Foutch's review. This is what makes them family, because "people that survive so many things and they teach you to always give the benefit of the doubt, to keep looking within, because there is a very special person behind all that tough skin and all those walls".

This origin was detailed by Jim Valentino in Guardians of the Galaxy #1, released in 1990.

The 46-year-old director is now helping Marvel plan their long-term slate and wants the "Expendables" star to play a key role. Following the catastrophic events of the first film in which Groot sacrifices himself to save the Guardians, the sequel sees the powerful tree alien as a baby sapling, changing the dynamic between the five heroes. Guardians of the Galaxy is a good enough movie to support such self-spoofing, and I'm sure the sequel will be too. "He just likes Spider-Man better", Pratt said. But the characters are due to appear in next year's Avengers: Infinity War, and with all of this made public knowledge fans then turned to the inevitable questions of continuity and timelines. There's real merit to movies like The Winter Soldier and Civil War, despite their feeling far more muted and serious than any of the trailers we've seen for Thor: Ragnarok. "And when I saw the movie, I immediately started getting it, and I immediately wanted to do it".

A lot of the story, which also includes a sisterly rivalry that has veered into the murderous zone, is drawn from Gunn's relationship with his father, a recovering alcoholic who has been sober for 20 years, and what he calls his big, lovingly dysfunctional Irish Catholic family. I know I'll be buying the album soon enough, and I imagine we'll be seeing it at the top of the charts even sooner.
