Half-Life 2 VR Mod Releases New Trailer

Half-Life 2 VR Mod Releases New Trailer

Half Life 2 is a classic and the community is in the process of bringing the game to VR. The latest about the 13-year-old game is a new virtual reality mod for Half-Life 2, which recently surfaced on Steam Greenlight.

The mod comes by way of Half-Life fans who want to provide a more immersive experience for gamers in City 17.

The mod has been in development for a long time, it first appeared back in 2013 and had a stint on the Oculus DK1 as HLVR.

Multiple VR locomotion methodsWhich all sounds great, except that the trailer for the mod seems to be more of a "here's an idea that we have" as opposed to something where we can see progress.

With this new information we now know for sure that motion-tracked controllers will be fully supported, instead of just keyboard and mouse controls, and both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive will be able to enjoy the mod in ideal platform parity. These improvements include updated effects, textures, models and maps as well as a new 3D GUI, specially designed for VR. Fortunately, after revisiting the system, the mods were able to pull together a crew of people to find solutions to make Half-Life 2 VR playable on current generation Rift and Vive units.

Though the mod would be free, it would require ownership of Half-Life 2 and its episodic DLC releases in order to play.

While Half-Life 2: VR needs a suitable amount of votes to pass Steam Greenlight the chance of this not happening is very slim - Half-Life 2 is just too well loved to not succeed. Head over the Greenlight page and give it a thumb-up.
