Io Shirai Reportedly Signs With WWE, Enzo & Big Cass Enjoy Zurich

Shirai joins Kairi Hojo, who signed with the promotion earlier this year, as the second Stardom talent to come over to WWE.

Dave Meltzer has reported that Io Shirai has accepted a generous offer from the WWE. Although her sister has since retired and started a family, Io Shirai still has a promising career ahead of her. "She had previously attended a Performance Center tryout back in March, though WWE quickly wiped out all mentions of her in an accompanying article".

Shirai has worked within various promotions in both Japan and Mexico and has developed a rabid cult of followers.

Shirai, 27, has won many accolades and titles in her time at Stardom, including the Artist of Stardom Championship, Wonder of Stardom Championship and World of Stardom Championship. And with its signing of Io Shirai, arguably the best women's wrestler in the world today, we may be entering the golden age of women's professional wrestling in America.

With all of these accomplishments, Stardom is taking yet another heavy hit with this loss. Both had previously considered staying in Japan after receiving interest from WWE late past year, but it seems that both have now changed their minds.

Some of Japan's top stars have done well in WWE and NXT, and now the company has reportedly signed another big name. She is expected to begin at the WWE Performance Center shortly, where she will develop her persona and learn the WWE style.
