Trump obstructed justice in Comey firing, says watchdog group CREW

Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Rosenstein has said he'd support an independent investigation into potential Trump-Russia collusion.

Trump critics argued the president fired FBI Director James Comey to squash an agency probe into whether the president's associates or his 2016 presidential campaign colluded with Russian to win the White House race. "The way (Trump) did it was remarkable", the source tells CNN. However, he didn't think that asking loyalty from Comey would be inappropriate - not to him, but to the nation at large.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation probe and parallel congressional investigations have clouded Trump's presidency since he took office on January 20, threatening to overwhelm his policy priorities.

The Virginia Democrat told MSNBC earlier Friday that Comey would not appear next week.

According to a CNN report citing Sen.

Woodward pointed out Sunday that Nixon's fired White House counsel John Dean testified for days on Capitol Hill how the president had "corruptly and illegally led the obstruction of justice".

Finally, someone in the White House ought to be thinking about Trump's poll numbers and his agenda.

"I spoke briefly with Director Comey about the dinner", Clapper said.

"I don't think it would be a bad question to ask", he explained. The president has insisted that in a phone conversation with Comey, the former FBI director assured him he was not being targeted in the investigation.

"As a very active President with lots of things happening, it is not possible for my surrogates to stand at podium with ideal accuracy!" On Thursday, Trump told NBC he knew he ran the risk that by firing Comey he would "confuse people" and "lengthen out the investigation" into ties to Russian Federation.

"President Trump's statements, together with the reported statements of other senior officials, indicate that the decision to fire Director Comey was made in connection [to that inquiry]", CREW wrote in a letter to Rosenstein.

The president said he never pressured Comey into dropping the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe, and added that there was no "collusion between me and my campaign and the Russians".
