Comey prepped answers ahead of Trump talks

We need the facts.

Comey would strategize with his team so as not to appear confrontational during the FBI's probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential race, CNN reported Wednesday.

In a week when we thought things couldn't get any worse, they have.

Mr Ryan said lawmakers want to hear from Mr Comey about "why he didn't take action at the time" if his allegation that Mr Trump asked him to stop investigating ex-National Security advisor Michael Flynn is true.

In a scheduled press conference following a meeting of congressional Republicans on Capitol Hill, the speaker of the House of Representatives said:"Our response is to be responsible, sober and to focus only on getting the facts".

The House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation for all documents prepared by Comey regarding his conversations with Trump.

Comey also kept memos from his phone conversations with Trump on at least two separate occasions, a source told CNN. "I hope you can let this go", referring to the Flynn investigation.

The Democrats in Congress have emphasised the seriousness of the accusations of Russian involvement in the election, not to mention the accusations that Trump tried to obstruct justice, and have demanded an independent investigation into the matter.

Comey reportedly created the trail to document what he saw as Trump's improper influence on the investigation.

The Senate Intelligence Committee asked Mr Comey yesterday to testify before the panel in public and in private.

A day before Mr Comey's meeting with Trump, Mr Flynn had been ousted for what the White House said were misleading accounts of his conversations with Russia's United States ambassador.
