India, Palestine sign five agreements for cooperation in different sectors

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today "reaffirmed" India's support for the creation of a Palestinian state, two months before he becomes the first Indian chief executive to visit Israel, attempting an uncomfortable balance between diplomatic tradition and ambition.

PM Modi also said that India hopes for an early resumption of talks between Palestinian and Israeli sides so as to move towards finding a comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue. "In this respect, let me express honest gratitude for all that Russian Federation has done in terms of its programme of support for building the Palestinian national state and its institutions", Abbas said. He given a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, which was followed by a wreath laying ceremony at Mahatma Gandhi's memorial at Raj Ghat.

His appointment comes a week before Trump is due to visit Israel on May 22 and 23, with the U.S. president seeking ways to restart the moribund peace process.

"Tomorrow when I will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I will discuss with him and I will ask him to utilise the Indian capacity, Indian good offices to bring peace between the two countries". However, the report quoted Energy and Water Minister Yuval Steinitz as saying that relations between Israel and the Arab world, particularly the conservative Sunni Gulf states and Saudi Arabia, were better now than ever.

Last week, Vladimir Putin met with his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas in Sochi, who once again stated that it is impossible to solve the Palestinian issue without Russia's meaningful participation.

On several occasions, President Trump has announced his commitment to brokering a peace deal between Israelis and Palestinians, the "ultimate deal", as he called it.

India and Palestine enjoy historical friendly ties. It has influence at the global level. India also participated in a conference on Israel and Palestine organised by France in Paris earlier this year. Once completed, it will serve as an IT hub in Palestine offering a one-stop solution for all ITrelated training and services. Modi, while inviting Palestinian people to participate in large numbers during International Yoga Day, Modi also said that both leaders also look forward to enhancing our cultural exchanges by adding new elements including Yoga exchanges.

The Palestinian president said during his meeting with Modi and Mukherjee, he will also apprise them of the ongoing political developments in Palestine and the Middle East.
