Mourinho wants to keep De Gea at Manchester United

"In any country in the world the match would be Saturday, because Sunday we are sixth, doesn't matter what, and Crystal Palace are safe, " said Mourinho.

"After the moment Palace beat Hull and Hull were relegated and Swansea are safe, the match should have been moved".

Mourinho also said that defender Eric Bailly picked up a minor injury but was not too concerned about the 23-year-old who is ineligible for the Europa League final after being sent off in the semi-final. "I hope he goes soft on us".

"I never saw that with Chelsea, I never saw that with Manchester United, I never saw that with Manchester City a year ago". It is a lost cause.

"I'm really happy with both of them".

"I hope to play Joel against Crystal Palace", Mourinho said. "I need to give four or five of my boys a run to give some stability to the kids".

When asked when De Gea would next play for United, Mourinho told Sky Sports: "I think the first match in pre-season against Los Angeles".

But Romero has already solved a problem about De Gea's successor should all attempts to keep the Spaniard fail. "David is top of the world and obviously we want to keep the top in the world".

All matches in the final round of the league season will be played at 3pm on Sunday, with Mourinho fuming that his side's Europa League final against Ajax in Stockholm next Wednesday is not considered to be a reason to move the fixture forward to Saturday.

"The more success we had, I couldn't wait for the next game to come along".

Southampton struggled to relieve the pressure building on manager Claude Puel against an under-strength United.

"I think we played a good team, a good game, against a team that tried to win and tried to finish well and finish eighth".

The Argentine worldwide has impressed manager Jose Mourinho this season as a more than able deputy to De Gea - so much so that he is set to earn a new contract in the coming weeks. "I believe it is not by looking at them, but by looking at ourselves". Sergio had a very good performance - more than very good. I would like to make more changes, give more rest but we feel there is a possibility at least to do what we did against Arsenal and Tottenham, compete for the result before the final.
