Trump, Netanyahu spoke via phone amid talk of intelligence leak

During the presidential campaign, Trump pledged to move the USA embassy to Jerusalem and declared that "under a Trump administration, will finally accept the long-standing Congressional mandate to recognize Jerusalem as the undivided capital of the State of Israel".

"That sounds like a policy question", McMaster said.

Trump and Netanyahu reportedly only discussed the US president's upcoming visit to Israel, which also has been marked by controversy over issues of the Western Wall and the status of Jerusalem.

While Mr Trump is set to become the first serving United States president to visit Jerusalem's Western Wall, Mr Netanyahu will not be present, the White House said on Tuesday. However, in the midst of the controversy, Israeli defense minister Avigdor Liberman emphasized the "deep, significant" ties between Israel and the U.S., Reuters reported.

"President Trump is still seriously considering moving the Embassy to Jerusalem in honor of Israel's 69th birthday", Pence said then.

Netanyahu recently tweeted a meeting with U.S. ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, where he said he was looking forward to meeting with Trump next week.

The Western Wall runs along the perimeter of one side of Jerusalem's holy Temple Mount, as it is known in Judaism, or Haram al-Sharif, as it is called in Islam. "I know that they are trying to fix that and get that taken care of, we have always thought the Western Wall was part of Israel".

Israel was the source of classified intelligence that Trump shared with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak in the Oval Office last week, sources have told The New York Times.

While out scouting the site with United States representatives, the Israeli team requested that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accompany Trump and his family to the wall.

Christian leaders delivered a letter to Pres. Donald Trump on Tuesday urging him to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in recognition of Israel's capital and in honor of U.S. law.

The senior official said the two men did not discuss the reports about Trump's leaks to the Russians at the White House.

President Donald Trump will not be visiting the Israeli historical site of Masada next week, but instead will be speaking at the Israel Museum according to US National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster.

Both Israel and the Palestinians consider Jerusalem to be their capital.

But since taking office Trump has not made any attempt to move the embassy, apparently heeding the advice of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and other advisers well aware that this could inflame the Arab world and possibly provoke renewed Palestinian violence.

"Trump is not going to let it stand that the Kotel (Western Wall) is going to be under the sovereignty of another nation, or that it'll be 'internationalized, ' as the Vatican would like", Hier said.

Trump visits Israel on Monday, after starting his trip to the region in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
