Amazon said to launch new touchscreen video Echo

The Amazon Echo seemed like a freakish device when it was announced, but it was just the first home of Amazon's Alexa voice assistant. Amazon has said that Alexa will show everything now because of the integrated touch screen.

Unlike other devices in the Echo range, which focus on streaming music and making phone calls through voice commands, the Echo Show features a built-in 7ins touchscreen to stream videos and view photographs.

"Echo Show brings you everything you love about Alexa, and now she can show you things", Amazon explains.

The Amazon Echo is a hit in the United Kingdom and the USA, but Amazon isn't resting on its laurels. Well when a call is incoming a green light ring will appear on the Echo device and, users will be able to answer, ignore or hang up the call using their voice. You might, for example, call the Echo Dot in your parents house, or the Alexa app on your wife's iPhone. If so, can you see yourself using it for calling or messaging?

This may be the most expensive Echo Amazon has launched to date. Sure, the Amazon Echo is cool, but can it video call your friends? The display can show the weather forecast when asked, play videos from YouTube, Amazon and other platforms. It has eight microphones, so that it never misses your voice commands. The device is the first to support the feature, which is absent in similar devices offered by rivals such as Alphabet Inc's unit Google. The Huawei Mate 9 features an Alexa app, and certain next-gen Moto handsets will also feature the personal assistant.

Outside of the look, this device actually sounds like something that could be quite useful in a home, assuming you have room on a counter or desk or shelf.

Now available for pre-order, the Echo Show retails for $230 and will begin shipping on June 28, 2017.
