Amber Alert issued for mother-and-daughter is now canceled

Officials say an Amber Alert has been canceled for a missing Hampton woman and child.

"Standard procedures for a Virginia AMBER Alert dictate a 12-hour activation period, unless there are extenuating circumstances", Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corrine Geller said in an email Thursday night.

Eight-month-old Chloe Johnson and her mother, 34-year-old Keir Johnson, were reported missing earlier this month. Otherwise, the Amber Alert is terminated after seven days. Johnson was heading to Buckroe Beach. No one has seen or heard from them since.

Keir Johnson was last seen in the 1900 block of Hastings Drive, driving a black 2013 Kia Optima with Virginia tags VAW-2197. A vehicle that Keir Johnson owned was discovered last Sunday in Newport News.

An AMBER Alert was issued for Chloe Johnson on May 11.

"Keir and Chloe's family are concerned due to the length of time that has passed since they last had contact with them".

When the vehicle was discovered in Newport News, their case was turned over to the Newport News Police Department from the Hampton Police Department.

Chloe is described as a black female weighing 20 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. She is 2-foot-5. A clothing description was not available.
