Animated Comedy 'Animals' Renewed by HBO

Created by Phil Matarese & Mike Luciano, from Duplass Brothers Productions, the animated adult television series is now in its second season, with the season finale scheduled to debut tonight, Friday, May 19 (11:30 p.m. -midnight ET/PT).

Animals debuted in February 2016 as somewhat of an avant-garde offering, with each entry showcasing the bottom-feeding side of New York City with typically ignored life forms such as pigeons, cats, dogs, mice, cockroaches and many more. The dialogue comes across as witty and sophisticated, typically culminating with a twist.

The series has become quite the draw for celebrities to lend their voices for one-off episodes.

Matarese and Luciano executive produce, write and direct all the episodes, and voice numerous characters on the show.

In addition to Matarese and Luciano, who also do voices on the show, Animals has lured impressive vocal talents including Aziz Ansari, Ellie Kemper, Danny McBride, RuPaul, Jason Alexander, Whoopi Goldberg, Emilia Clarke, Ice-T and Jonah Hill, among many others.

HBO has announced the renewal of its critically lauded animated series, Animals.

Mark Duplass and Jay Duplass also executive produce the series, with producers James Fino, Joe Russo II, Kenny Micka, and co-executive producer Jen Roskind.

The animation for Animals was created with Dan Harmon's Starburns Industries.
