Crosby: Team doc gave OK after head-first fall

Now, even as the Penguins beat Holtby twice in the final four minutes Monday, the potential problem in net is unquestionably Pittsburgh's Marc-Andre Fleury, who cursed himself after Burakovsky's second-period goal put the Caps up 2-0 - and then looked dicey the rest of the way. In order for the Penguins to win Game 7, they will have to come out with the same fire the Capitals brought out for Games 6 and 7; Sullivan will demand nothing less.

A year ago, Washington trailed Pittsburgh 3-1 in the second round, won Game 5 at home only to fall in overtime of Game 6. Those spotters are in the arena and in a central office in NY watching the video feed. "Guys started squeezing the stick a little bit tighter and tried to do different things instead of doing the same things over and over, and seeing the results come later, or whenever they did". Despite being down 3-2 in the series, the Capitals have 59 more shots on goal than the Penguins. The Capitals were the best team in the National Hockey League during the regular season but were down 3-1 in their series against the defending Stanley Cup champions.

After the Penguins' 5-2 loss, Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan was asked if Crosby was checked for a concussion. Ovechkin, who went without a point in Game 6, had three shots and three hits. He reunited the "HBK" line of Carl Hagelin, Nick Bonino and Phil Kessel that worked so well during last spring's Cup run and the trio responded by generating one shot on goal. Crosby clarified the chain of events Tuesday, following the team's practice, noting that he was attended to by the team trainer and then examined by the team doctor, who decided Crosby did not need to enter the protocol at the first intermission. Though "HBK" was hardly the only group that had issues.

The Capitals forced a Game 7 on Monday, and it's set for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. There's no word on whether Crosby will play. He didn't miss a shift and stressed he felt fine. Even going back to Kris Letang's injury, many pointed to health as a big reason why Washington may finally pass this ultimate test. Now, it certainly seems like Washington has the advantage, especially since it has arguably outplayed the Penguins for most of the series.

The Capitals dominated the Penguins so thoroughly that Pittsburgh only had nine shots on goal after 40 minutes.

All series the Capitals have been aiming to play better in front of Holtby, who had his best game of the series Saturday in stopping 20 of 22 shots.

Nowinski went on to say that Crosby probably should have been evaluated. "But you have to give Washington credit too".

"We're still down", captain Alex Ovechkin said.

Every article you read regarding the Penguins and their Game 7 fate showcase the Pens in a negative light, and for good reason.

The game was settled with a flurry of scoring in the third, with Backstrom beating Fleury for 3-0 before Carlson added a power-play goal to make it 4-0 at 11:17 of the third. A surging Capitals team hitting its stride vs. a Penguins team looking to dig deep for one more win and see what happens from there. Despite the blowout in Game 6, they're still right there.

Crosby said he felt fine and was cleared to continue to play by the team medical staff.
