Dan Auerbach Releases Video for New Album Track "Waiting On A Song"

It's been eight years since Auerbach's released a solo album and from the tracks we've heard so far "Waiting On A Song" could be some of his strongest work to date. Previously he shared videos for "Shine on Me" and "King of a One Horse Town". This time it's a Bryan Schlam-directed clip for the album's title track, and it was shot in some familiar Music City locales - Wendell Smith's, Dino's, Weiss Liquors and the Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville among them.

The video seems to pick up where Dazed and Confused left off, following a group of teens during the "best summer of their lives" before they leave home for college. It starts with a minute of dialogue before the song kicks in.

Auerbach had this to say about the video in a press release: "Not only does the video evoke the feeling of the song, but it also pays tribute to the great tradition of Nashville songwriters". There's even a quick cameo from John Prine, one of Auerbach's album collaborators, who buys alcohol for the teenagers.

The video for Dan Auerbach's new single "Waiting On A Song" harks back to high school memories in what is nearly an ode to Richard Linklater / John Hughes of coming of age style of film making. He added, "I've always wanted to make a movie about that weight, the feeling of moving from childhood to pseudo adulthood". Auerbach has called Waiting on a Song a "love letter to Nashville", and it includes contributions from former Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler, members of the Memphis Boys, Duane Eddy and Prine. The album, his second following 2009's Keep It Hid, is due June 2 via Easy Eye Sound, his new label named after his Nashville studio. I didn't have all of these resources before.
