Mamma Mia sequel coming next summer

Nearly exactly a decade after the original, which earned nearly $610 million after its 2008 release, Here We Go Again! is dancing into theaters on July 20, 2018.

According to Universal, much of the original cast is expected to return, with some new faces added, too.

Universal Pictures has officially announced that they've nailed down a director and locked in a release date for the sequel to the 2008 smash musical film Mamma Mia! Plot details are still scarce, but the film will be "based on" the songs of ABBA. "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" writer Ol Parker is set to write and direct. Phyllida Lloyd directed the first film. The Movie bowed at the nation's theaters en route to $144.1M domestically, the gang is on its way baaaack! Littlestar's Judy Craymer and Playtone's Gary Goetzman, who produced the original, will reteam for the sequel. Here We Go Again - is due out in the summer of 2018, using ABBA songs not utilised the first time round.

Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus also return as executive producers. The original movie, based on the hit stage musical, starred Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Dominic Cooper, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Julie Walters, and Christine Baranski.
