OH NO! Kangana in legal trouble over 'Rani of Jhansi'!

Acclaimed filmmaker Ketan Mehta on Thursday said he has sent a legal notice to actress Kangana Ranaut for conniving with producer Kamal Jain and others to hijack "Rani of Jhansi - The Warrior Queen", his most ambitious film project.

So did Kangana never respond to the drafts that Mehta shared with her?

According to Mehta, Kangana publicly committed to doing the project with him in 2015 but later she signed Manikarnika - the Queen of Jhansi with another producer and director. Mehta had patiently waited for over one and a half years for her to do the film and in the interim had shared multiple drafts of the script and all the research material on the subject collected over years with her, and also brought in an worldwide co-producer on board for the project. We have sent a notice to Kangana as I think there is an attempt of hijacking a film. "We have asked for the film (Manikarnika) to stop as we plan to go ahead with our project", the filmmaker added. That's when Kangana introduced us to Kamal Jain as a prospective co-producer.

Kangana performed Ganga Aarti at Varanasi during the poster launch of Manikarnika. This was a fabricated piece of news. Ketan Mehta wanted to make the film in English for an global audience while Kangana wanted the film to be in Hindi. We believed it is a story that needs to be told not just in India, but overseas as well. Kangana told IANS: "After coming on board to this project I'm feeling like I've achieved something very big in this movie". In fact, he claims he even brought an global co-producer on board for the project. And then, suddenly, we hear about this project. While Kangana was working on clearing her schedule and working on dates to start shooting for the film, Mehta was working on the script, doing more research and brought an worldwide producer on board. He found this completely unethical.

Mehta has directed films such as "Mirch Masala" featuring Smita Patil and Naseeruddin Shah, "Maya Memsaab" starring Deepa Mehta and Shah Rukh Khan, "Mangal Pandey - The Rising" starring Aamir Khan and "Manjhi - The Mountain Man" starring Nawauddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte says now his lawyer will take up the matter with the actress. Talking about the preparation of her film Manikarnika, Kangana said: "The prep is restricted to the material like photographs and letters".

Hindustan Times tried contacting Kangana's manager, but there was no response.
