PGA Championship McIlroy withdraws over injury

There is only weeks between the US Open and the Open Championship at Birkdale and McIlroy is due to play in two events between them - the Travelers Championhsip in CT and the Irish Open, at Portstewart, the tournament he, himself, promotes. The Ulsterman said he had been sleeping on his side, drawing worry from his new wife, Erica Stoll. Are you not happy with me?

It flared up as he lost a play-off to Graeme Storm in the South African Open in January and he did not feature again until the WGC-Mexico Championship in March where he finished four shots behind the victor, Dustin Johnson.

Rory McIlroy has withdrawn from next week's BMW PGA Championship due to a rib injury. "It's a disappointing decision to have to make, but I have to ensure I make a full recovery".

Having been sidelined for several weeks by a rib problem that caused him back pain earlier this year, the world No. 2 reported similar discomfort - albeit not as severe - during The Players Championship last week. However, with McIlroy taking this precaution, he is expected to be ready to play in the U.S. Open and the rest of the majors this summer.
