Reema Lagoo Passed Away at 59, Actors Bid her Adieu

I gave the pictures to her after developing and she loved them. Her family confirmed that she died at 3.15am on Thursday after suffering a heart attack at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. She soon started acting in Hindi and Marathi film.

Born Gurinder Bhadbhade, she was daughter of Marathi stage actress Mandakini Bhadbhade. Her son-in-law Vinay Waikul confirmed her death.

Rishi Kapoor, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao, Kajol, Sonali Kurkani and Rakesh Bedi attended her last rites. I remember we had a house in Versova in a building opposite hers. It happened suddenly and is saddening. She was a fabulous actor and her heart was so clean. "We only pray that she rests in peace". I regularly watched "Naamkarann" and thought she was brilliant. She was someone you automatically wanted to greet. After "QSQT", we shared screen space in "Najayaz", "Pratibandh" and "Deewana Mastana" too, but my most vivid memories are of working with her in "Yes Boss".

Condolences and tributes to the actress poured forth on Twitter, including from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Known for playing mother's roles in blockbusters such as Maine Pyar Kiya, Aashiqui, Saajan, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Vaastav, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Hum Saath Saath Hain, Reema Lagoo started her career on Marathi stage. While her acting prowess was noted even when she was a student in Pune, she started acting on stage after completing school.

Recalled former colleague Vishwas Utagi: "She worked in the Fort branch of Union Bank of India for almost a decade and simultaneously pursued her passion for acting". I can't believe she's no more.

At that time, she competed with other bankers like Amol Palekar (of Bank of India) and Ashok Saraf (of State Bank of India), among many others, who later went on to become legendary actors, he added.

On television, the actress was seen in prominent roles in "Khandaan", "Shrimaan Shrimati", "Tu Tu, Main Main", "Do Aur Do Paanch", and the ongoing serial "Naamkaran". "I respected her a lot and will dedicate this performance to her", she asserts. Along with the tribute, Mirror carried some ethereal black-and-white pictures of the actress which were clicked by her friend Renuka Shahane at Filmistan Studio during the shoot of Sooraj Barjatya's 1994 film Hum Aapke Hain Koun...! "I met Reema a few weeks ago at an award function".
