Russia's Putin offers transcript of White House meeting

You can understand why he didn't resign: If he thought a Trump crony would replace him as director, resigning might have made it easier for Trump to thwart the Russia/Flynn investigations, not harder. But why not blow the whistle?

She shared that she was sure the memo about Trump asking Comey to drop the investigation into Mike Flynn really exists. That suggests Comey feared agents would be intimidated if they learned that the president wanted the Flynn probe ended and might go soft on Flynn because of it.

Trump later admitted in a television interview about Comey's firing that he was bothered by "this Russian Federation thing" and said he would have fired Comey regardless of the Justice Department recommendation.

On the House floor, the seventh-term lawmaker said Trump should be removed from office for "obstruction of justice". Comey said he replied that "I agree he is a good guy" but said nothing to Trump about limiting the investigation. "This is not a truthful or accurate portrayal of the conversation between the President and Mr. Comey". The Times story doesn't claim that Trump threatened him.

"Let's get to the bottom of what happened with the director".

A White House official said in a statement on Tuesday that Trump "has repeatedly expressed his view that General Flynn is a decent man who served and protected our country", but that he "has never asked Mr. Comey or anyone else to end any investigation, including any investigation involving General Flynn". Those who ventured out were "confused and squabbling", The New York Times noted. Trump let Flynn keep his job for additional 18 days after that warning was delivered.

"I think we've seen this movie before", the Arizona Republican said at a dinner to receive the International Republican Institute's Freedom Award. That's according to a Comey memo. But at the DOJ itself?

And he wasn't the only one to break ranks on Comey. "All of this just gets more and more baffling every day, but I don't think we should allow it to distract us from the very serious allegations".

Republican Senator John McCain, who has called for the creation of a special bipartisan congressional panel to investigate the Russian Federation matter, compared the controversies enveloping Trump to the Watergate scandal that forced Republican President Richard Nixon to resign in 1974.

"Our democracy has become a mess", said Rep. Eric Swalwell of California, who sits on the House Intelligence Committee, which is conducting its own Russian Federation investigation.

The associate was not authorised to discuss the memo by name and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland said he's "not there yet", when it comes to thinking about impeachment.

In a letter to acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe on Tuesday, the Republican chairman of a House oversight committee, Jason Chaffetz, set a May 24 deadline for the FBI to produce all relevant material relating to any communications between Comey and Trump. Many Democrats don't believe that's the right focus at this time.

The senators have requested that Comey -who was sacked by Trump last week - appear before the committee "in both open and closed sessions", according to a press release.

There is no sign the FBI's Russian Federation investigation is closing.

Details of Comey's notes have been shared with a very small circle of people at the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Justice Department, these people said.
