Star Wars: Rogue One - Cassian & K-2SO Special #1 announced by Marvel

Marvel has already published two printed prequel series - last year's Obi-Wan and Anakin, and this past February's Darth Maul - while a separate six-issue comic adaptation of Rogue One began rolling out in April, so it's clear that these latest titles are part of an ongoing strategy to truly flesh out Star Wars' sprawling sci-fi mythos. Cassian & K2SO is due to hit store shelves on August 9, and Star Wars: Jedi of the Republic - Mace Windu is set to begin in August 23.

Cassian & K-2SO Special #1 is a new one-shot coming from Marvel that will dig into the origin of the rebels Cassian Andor and K-2S0.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel will release a special one-off comic book centered on Cassian Andor and K-2SO.

Swierczynski said in a statement that the duo are his favorite characters from the movie.

There is so much backstory to tell with both these characters, that it makes ideal sense for Marvel Star Wars to do a one-off comic about them.

I'm willing to bet that the meet-up between these two characters would not have been easy.

In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Cassian, and Kaytoo accompany Jyn Erso as she goes to Jedha to find Bodhi Rook, an Imperial pilot who defected to the Rebellion with a special message for Jyn. What can I say?

Cassian & K-2SO is the fourth spin-off from Rogue One to explore the pasts of the characters from the movie; each of the three prior - Catalyst, Rebel Rising and Guardians of the Whills - have been prose releases. It'll hit stores in August.
